Description	Photographic postcard of Carnegie Library from the early 1900s. Looking from the southwest across Park Place. Ewing Hall can be seen to the left and the Women's Gymnasium can be seen on the right. Both buildings have been demolished. Originally known as Carnegie Library, it was built to house the increasing number of book volumes held by OU and was the first campus building to be constructed primarily as a library. The building was funded through a generous donation from Andrew Carnegie who provided $30,000 for the construction of the library. The library was named in his honor. Following Chubb Library's construction in 1931 Carnegie Hall was converted into office and classroom space. It was renovated again in the 1980s and renamed E. W. Scripps Hall in honor of the late E. W. Scripps. The Scripps Howard Foundation established a $1.5 million endowment for the journalism school at that time. Scripps Hall houses the School of Journalism and in addition to classrooms, it includes a research center, reading room, media center, and lecture hall. An amphitheater stands on the College Green side of the building where Ewing Hall once stood.
