Dr. Dill on , in one of his articles in · Contemporary" of October,
reporti ng on the prohibition movement in Finland, gi ves some
showi ng what t he per cent per capita alcoholic consumption is
countries .
I presume that in these figures the usual practice in such statistics
operated, namety, of reducing to pure alcohol all the drink consumed- ­ie
to say, that beer, which had , say, 5' ; b of alcohol would be charged
litres for every hundred litres consumed. Other beverages would be
in the saDIe way .
A litre, I believe, is very nearly a quart or a little more.
From Dillon ' s figures , it seems that there are 19 li tres of pure
consumed every year in France f or every man, woman and child.
this would be five gallons.
