THE 1!ASTER -- SERVANT
A witty and observant English diplomat once said that he was
always greatly interested in seei~ two Germans meet for the first
time in watching to see which one would treat the other 1 ike a dog.
Is there any difference in this respect between the Germans and
any other nationality, other than that the Germans as a rule are
more brutally frank than other nationalities in their ftl)e-el.ioDI?
Wherever two or more human beings &ssemblet it is inevitable that
one will assume dominance over the other ,0 r others and that the other
or others will accord to him the position, not only of leader, but
dominator -- actual nlaster.
As nature abhors a. vacuum, man abhors equality.
Some eminent psychologist, who is also a. biologist, has stated
that Vloman, whatever her station in life, more nearly resembles and
has to a greater degree the character elements of the primitive man
or of an earlier genera.tion than her masculine mte. She is more
than man a. creature of impulse or emotion; that is to sa.y, is ruled
more by instinct than is a maIl.
The wo.wa.n is lOOre cruel, more selfish, and less altruistic than
the man.
It is the woman-kind of the nation tha.t has most of the militant
spirit and is most inclined to incite and encourage the men to
go.into battle than a.re the men to voluntarily assume the wa.rrior's
calling.
There .. iean old English proverb to the effect that a. 1IOlD8.Yl, a.
dog, and a walnut tree, are alike in that the more you "wallup· them
the better they be.
A woman desires a. master and without a master over her She is
lIi.arable. A woman my have a good or bad master; a cruel or a kind
