SOCIALISK---INDIVIDU.A1ISE---]lATALISM.
During these past several years my principal business has been an
effort to successfully launch my younc;est son, who has just atrived at
his maturi ty.
Like 811 young men, this boy of mine is mostly an untsxlled savage.
Like tbe rest of them, he is altos-ether an egoist. For him, the only
person in the ','!orld who sic;nifies anytli.inc; tol1im~ is IJiruself. Per-sonal
inde')enCience-- entire freedom from any sort of restraint by another
appears to llim to be the only endurable condition'.
I lwve been trying to open his mind so tl1at he can see some realiites.
Havine: formulated a brief, fey{ lines of a dedicatory address to my
aged sister, I CfHlsed him to read it, and used it as Hly text.
